What RP Intense Means
The term "role-play intense" simply means that nothing of the out of character (OOC) real world is allowed to mix with the in character (IC) world of the game setting. The two are kept strictly separate. In an RPI setting, role-playing is the most important factor in gaining experience, skills, spells, money, prestige, and other character benefits and advantages. At the Empire of the Blue Lotus, no experience is awarded for kills, and experience as well as money is awarded consistently for interacting with others in an in character manner.
The player in an RPI environment takes on the persona of a character, and acts consistently with that character's thoughts, feelings, history, and knowledge rather than the player's own. Rivalries and enmity, and likewise friendship, in one realm is not permitted to affect the other. Similarly, knowledge gained by the player is not available for use by the character in any way, including knowledge of stats and skill ranks.
Tips for Keeping Within an RP Intense Environment
Many of these tips are not hard and fast rules, but ignoring them is often corrected by other players. Following them leads to a smoother feel to the role-play.
* avoid typical internet abbreviations and emoticons when interacting in character, as well as words and terms that exist only in modern real life. (for example, it would be inappropriate to make any sort of reference to a gun)
* attitudes and many rights taken for granted in modern society simply did not exist in the time period of the MUD setting. expecting freedom and equality is likely to be reacted to with bewilderment
* avoid any non-theme elements when interacting with people ICly
* IC modes of communication include: says, emotes, rpechos, yells, pmotes
* OOC modes of communication include: OOC, Guild channels, Question/Answer channel
